February 13, 2014 – Dr. Eugene Y. Chan of the DNA Medicine Institute presented capabilities of the rHEALTH technology at the NASA Human Research Program (HRP) Investigators’ Workshop, Challenges and Opportunities: Maximizing Human Space Flight Research in Galveston, Texas. The audience were NASA officials, scientists, and funded Principal Investigators of the HRP. The talk highlighted the broad capabilities of the rHEALTH relating to hematology, biomarker analysis, chemistry, nucleic acids, and small molecules. To date, the rHEALTH technology has had success with over sixteen different assays across these various assay classes. Its minimal mass, volume, and power make it uniquely suitable for spaceflight, particularly long-duration spaceflight to Near Earth Objects (NEOs) and Mars, where medical diagnosis needs to autonomous, self-directed, and simple.
